HOMESCHOOL ICE SKATING GROUP
Ice skating coach, Dawn Harter, leads the homeschool ice skating group that meets at the LaHaye Ice Center for instruction on Wednesdays at 10:30a. The 5-week sessions cycle throughout the academic year and cost $65 per skater/per 5-week session and include membership with the US Figure Skating Association and participation in the ice show in December. HOMESCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAMS NOW FORMING
From local homeschool father, Bob Sanchez…
Roanoke Ambassadors Football is currently forming independent Christian tackle football teams for homeschool and private school (without football team) boys currently (2016-17 academic year) in 7th-11th grade in the Roanoke-Lynchburg region. Play is scheduled to begin for the fall 2017 season. The program is Roanoke-based with teams currently forming in Roanoke and Lynchburg; boys will have a choice to play on either squad.
Games are scheduled, all positions are open, and the Christian environment will be much like the Central Virginia Disciples and Hampton Roads Generals (no religious requirement to participate). No prior experience necessary, just a desire to always play hard.

CLASS OF 2017 PLANNING MEETING
Lynchburg Homeschool Graduation will be holding a planning meeting on Saturday, February 18, 2017 from 10a-12p at the Tabor Retreat Center, 2125 Langhorne Road in Lynchburg (up hill and to right of Holy Cross Catholic School) for families interested in participating in the community-wide ceremony being held on Saturday, June 3, 2017. ONWARD CHRISTIAN ACADEMY INFO MEETING
Onward Christian Academy, a university model homeschool organization, will be holding an informational meeting on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 from 7-9p at 512 Breezewood Drive in Lynchburg.
OCA began their pilot program with the 2016-17 academic year. The pilot program is for K-5 students and ideally will grow to K-12 in future years. Classes meet two days per week. Learn more by visiting the Onward Christian Academy website here and by viewing an OCA online presentation here.
HOMESCHOOL DAYS AT RISE UP CLIMBING
Rise Up Climbing in Lynchburg will be offering Homeschool Days on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 1-5p (on February 22, 2017 this month). Homeschool Day pricing is $10/climber including gear (normally $15.50) or $15/initial belayer training for parents and students over 14 years-old. Parents and students over 14 years-old will learn to hold rope (known as belaying) for their climber in 30 minutes on the spot. After the initial training the belaying itself is free upon subsequent visits. Rental harness, if needed, is $2. Anyone under 18 years-old will need a waiver filled out by their parent or legal guardian. SPRING 2017 VINTAGE BALL
Lynchburg Home School Athletic Association will be hosting their spring Vintage Ball on Friday, March 10, 2017 from 7-10pm at Hyland Heights Baptist Church in Rustburg, VA. Doors open at 6:30p. Tickets are $8 per person/$30 per family of 4 or more if paid online. Tickets purchased after March 7, 2017 will be $12 per person/$40 per family. No prior dance experience/skill needed. Vintage dances will be taught, demonstrated, and called. Dress can be vintage, formal, semi-formal, or dressy. Ladies, please no low-cut tops or extra short dresses. Gentlemen, please wear a collared shirt and no jeans. Please bring a drink and a finger food or two to share. No alcohol or tobacco products. This is a family friendly event. All ages are welcomed and encouraged to participate. However, children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Proceeds will go to LHSAA for the advancement of athletic opportunities for homeschooled students in the Lynchburg and surrounding areas.
HOMESCHOOL FIRST 2017 SCIENCE FAIR
Homeschool First will be hosting a community-wide homeschool science fair on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 10a-2p (set-up begins at 9a) at Forest Hill United Methodist Church. Three judged categories (grades 3-6, middle school, high school) and judging will include an interview with the student at their display area. Participation is free to members and $10 per participant for non-members. Student will be given a half-table display area for their work. Homeschool First member registration begins January 6, 2017, non-members may register after January 15, 2017. Space is limited to 50 participants. GRHE HIGH SCHOOL SYMPOSIUM
Greater Roanoke Home Educators will be hosting a high school symposium for homeschool families on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 9a-3:15p at Dale Ridge Church of Christ (7165 Cloverdale Road, Roanoke). $16 per family, early registration ends March 15th. Morning refreshments will be available to all attendees. A Chick-Fil-A lunch ticket may be purchased at the morning registration for $6 per person (cash or check). OUR TOWN BY CITY ON A HILL YOUTH THEATER

ALLIANCE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY OPEN HOUSE
Alliance Christian Academy will host an Open House event on Monday, March 27, 2017 from 6:45-8:45p at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. CENTRAL VIRGINIA HOMESCHOOL PROM
The Central Virginia Homeschool Prom will be held Friday, May 5, 2017 from 7:30-11:30p at the Holiday Inn Downtown Lynchburg for homeschool high school students and their guests. Tickets are $22 until May 1st, $25 after that date. Price includes heavy hors d’oeuvres, and unlimited digital photos of prom night. Please purchase at earliest convenience for accurate head count regarding hot hors d’oeuvres and party favors. The prom is a formal event and the 2017 theme is Enchantment Under the Sea. STANFORD-10 HOMESCHOOL STUDENT TESTING
Homeschool Testing Services will be proctoring the Stanford-10 standardized test to local homeschool students on May 16-17, 2017 at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. SEEKING TEST PROCTORS FOR STANFORD-10 TESTING
Homeschool Testing Services will be proctoring the Stanford-10 standardized test to local homeschool students on May 16-17, 2017 at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. They are seeking test proctors for this event. Potential proctors should possess a 4-year college degree, work well with children, and be reliable and responsible. Lynchburg area homeschool students graduating in the Class of 2017 are invited to participate in the community-wide ceremony being held on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 2p at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, 4660 Fort Street , Lynchburg.
