Lynchburg Homeschool Field Trip Club, started by local home educator, Bethany Davis, features field trips and playdates geared toward local elementary-aged homeschool students. NEW LYNCHBURG HOMESCHOOLING WEEKLY PE GROUP
Lynchburg Homeschooling Weekly PE Group (ages 8-12) is a new weekly homeschooling physical education (PE) group targeting ages 8-12 that currently meets on Fridays at 1pm at Peaksview Park. Younger age groups added if sufficient interest & volunteer to organize activities. CAMPBELL 4-H HOMESCHOOL CLOVERS

Campbell 4-H Homeschool Clovers is holding their next meeting on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 2p at the Virginia Cooperative Extension office at 163 Kabler Street in Rustburg. The Homeschool Clovers group is for homeschool students aged 5-18 years-old. COMMUNITY-WIDE HOMESCHOOL MOMS NIGHT OUT & SPECIAL EVENTS

HHBC Homeschoolers, the Hyland Heights Baptist Church community-wide homeschool ministry, is gearing up for an exciting year! With new leadership, the ministry is taking a different approach to this outreach program. No longer will the ministry offer co-ops or classes, but will now focus on supporting and serving the homeschool community through encouraging monthly meetings and special events. Additionally, the ministry will support existing local homeschool groups and co-ops by coordinating the use of classroom and meeting space at Hyland Heights and promoting their events and field trips through the HHBC website and HHBC Homeschool’s Facebook page.

Monthly meetings will be held the first Thursday of each month from 6:30-8:00p, beginning September 3, 2015. Special events planned for this year include a Christmas vendor fair at the December meeting, a Co-op & Support group Expo in April, and a Used Curriculum Fair in May.

The next monthly Homeschool Day at Funquest Family Entertainment Center will be on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 2-4p. ALETHEIA ACTING WORKSHOPS FOR FALL

Veteran homeschool mom and long time theatre instructor and producer in our homeschool community, Deb McPherson, will be offering her Acting Basics workshop classes through Aletheia, her new theatre company, on Wednesdays from 3:30-5p at Grace Evangelical Free Church beginning September 9, 2015. Acting Basics will run through mid-November. The workshop is open to ages 12 and up, including adults. Registration fee is $15 and monthly tuition is $25. LIBERTY UNIVERSITY HOMESCHOOL DAY

Liberty University will be holding Homeschool Day events for middle and high school students and their parents on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 9a-3p (check-in 8:30-9a). Events include breakfast, a student track of workshops and a parent track of workshops, lunch, and campus tour. Childcare is unavailable for children under 12 years-old. Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 12th, Liberty University’s first Homeschool Day for the 2015-16 academic year! Designed for middle through high school students and their parents, Homeschool Day will feature a light breakfast followed by a morning schedule of events for students and for parents:

The student track includes a study skills class hosted by Professor George Young of our School of Business and a history class hosted by the Department of History, taught in Scholars Commons of the beautiful Jerry Falwell Library.

The parent track includes a college preparation session (discussing testing, transcripts, and dual enrollment) and a session on creating a plan for college suited to your student’s strengths, both presented by Phylicia Masonheimer, Liberty’s Homeschool Coordinator.

A catered lunch will be provided following the morning sessions. After lunch, a tour of the university will be offered at 1 PM. Childcare will be unavailable for children under the age of 12.


LYNCHBURG HOMESCHOOL FORENSICS DEBATE CLUB MEETING

Lynchburg Homeschool Forensics is holding their first debate club meeting on Friday, September 18, 2015 from 9a-12p. Email LHF Coordinator, Debbie Dewhurst, here for further details and location.

It is almost here!!! This Friday, we hold our first Debate Club for Lynchburg Homeschool Forensics. If you are interested in participating in debate this year, it is NOT too late!! We would love to have any and all come and see if debate would be a good fit for them and their family on this homeschooling journey. We are looking forward to a GREAT year!! and it is wonderful that you are considering joining us for it!!


HOMESCHOOL COMMUNITY-WIDE PICNIC

The first annual Homeschool Community Picnic for all homeschool families in the area is being hosted by Kim Yeatts and Lynn Joshua on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Peaks View Park’s Large Pavilion at 170 Ivy Creek Lane beginning at noon and running all day. COME enjoy great fellowship with other home-educators in our community. We especially encourage teens to come and make new friends!

BRING lunch for your own family, your own drinks and all paper supplies for your family. Also, bring a dessert to share.

We will have prayer and begin our picnic at 12 noon, but come whenever you can; we have the pavilion all day.

BRING games, bikes, frisbees, etc. There are trails as well. Please feel free to pass this invitation along to others. Looking forward to a wonderful time!


HOMESCHOOL DAY AT SMITH’S PUMPKIN PATCH

Local homeschool family, the Smiths of Smith’s Pumpkin Patch, will be hosting their annual Homeschool Day on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 from 10a-8p. All-day passes available, $5 per child/$2.50 per adult. Visit Smith’s Pumpkin Patch on Facebook here and in Lynchburg at 6210 Fort Avenue.

Come for a fun filled day at the Patch and enjoy the fellowship of other homeschoolers! The price includes an all day pass and we have expanded this year to include a MAZE and HAYRIDES along with the bounce houses, huge corn box, teepee, Noah’s Ark and much more! If your child, or even adult, would like to paint a pumpkin it is $2. Vending is also available and includes a hot dog lunch, nacho’s, drinks, shaved ice, ice cream and more!

GBCHE HARVEST DANCE

Greater Bedford Christian Home Educators will be hosting their Harvest Dance on Friday, October 30, 2015 from 6:30-10p. This event is a family barn dance held in the barn at 2402 Old Country Road, 1.3 miles from 122 and Joppa Mill Road intersection. Western wear is encouraged, modesty is requested. Bring finger foods, finger desserts, and a 2 liter beverage to share. Tickets are $10 per person with $35 maximum per family. HOMESCHOOL DAYS AT RISE UP CLIMBING

Rise Up Climbing in Lynchburg will be offering Homeschool Days on the 4th Wednesday of each month from 1-5p. Homeschool Day pricing is $10/climber including gear (normally $15.50) or $15/initial belayer training for parents and students over 14 years-old. Parents and students over 14 years-old will learn to hold rope (known as belaying) for their climber in 30 minutes on the spot. After the initial training the belaying itself is free upon subsequent visits. Rental harness, if needed, is $2. Anyone under 18 years-old will need a waiver filled out by their parent or legal guardian. Liberty University’s Office of Admissions is pleased to announce the creation of a specific liaison for homeschool families. Phylicia Masonheimer, a homeschool and Liberty graduate, is now acting as Liberty’s Homeschool Coordinator. She is available for admissions, dual enrollment, and transfer questions and can be contacted for one-on-one visits or to schedule a visit with your co-op or group.
