SPRING HOMESCHOOL BOWLING LEAGUE

The Homeschool Connecting Place is hosting another homeschool bowling league this spring. The league is open to homeschool students from preschool through high school. The cost is $8 per child per week and includes 3 games and shoe rentals on bowling league day, food discount, free practice game, shoe rental anytime during the week, and more. The 10-week league meets every Thursday at 1 p.m. beginning March 20, 2014 at the AMF Bowling Alley on Candlers Mountain Road. HOMESCHOOL TENNIS LEAGUE, ANYONE?!?

The Lynchburg Tennis Patrons Association (LTPA) is a community-minded organization that has been serving the Lynchburg area for over 50 years. The LTPA started their Junior Tennis Program in 2012 and added a homeschool league for Spring 2014 for homeschool students ages 9-10yo (10U), 11-12yo (12U), and 13-14yo (14U). Registration forms are due by MARCH 15, 2014. The parent/child meeting is Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 12pm at Peaks View Park. Practices begin April 24, 2014 (11a-12p) and matches begin May 8, 2014. $25 league fee will be collected at the parent/child meeting. SPRING HOMESCHOOL 101 SESSIONS

Homeschooling 101 is brought to you by  local home educating mothers who remember those scary and exciting first steps into homeschooling. There are three dates to choose from, all Tuesdays from 10a-12p at West Lynchburg Baptist Church in Lynchburg. The cost is $5/per person and includes childcare. CUSTOMIZED HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMAS FOR HOMESCHOOL GRADS

CIVIL AIR PATROL OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS

GIRLS HOMESCHOOL SOCCER STARTING

Lynchburg Home School Athletic Association (LHSAA) Girls Soccer for middle school through varsity ages will begin unofficial practices in early-March with official practices beginning in mid-March. Typically, practices are held twice per week (Fridays & Tues/Wed) with 13 game days. Practices and games are at Hyland Heights Baptist Church. Online registration began on Monday, February 10, 2014. HOMESCHOOL BALLET CLASSES

Ballet Aresko’s spring session of homeschool ballet classes are now open. The January special is $10 off your first month of tuition when you invite another registering student. Ballet Aresko is a new school of dance in Lynchburg, Virginia offering affordable and wholesome training in ballet and lyrical dance. Classes are held on Timberlake Road. The classes are taught by a professional Ballet dancer who holds 21 years of experience. Tuition is $40-$50 per month no costume or production fees. The Home Educators Association of Virginia is hosting their 31st Annual Virginia Homeschool Convention, Home Education: Hope and A Future, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center on June 5-7, 2014. This year promises to be another awesome, bring-the-whole-family event–you won’t want to miss it. Details on this year’s speakers and exhibitors–along with lots of exciting new features–will be coming soon. Rescheduled… HOMESCHOOL DAY AT VIRGINIA LIVING MUSEUM

The Virginia Living Museum in Newport News, Virginia will open its classroom doors to homeschoolers on Thursday, February 13, 2014 (rescheduled) Friday, March 7, 2014 with a selection of fun and engaging classroom programs that highlight important natural science and earth concepts. “Only at the VLM can your homeschooled students meet live animals, handle museum quality specimens, experiment with real scientific equipment and more while learning about the fascinating world around us,” says Museum Education Director, Chris Lewis. The museum offers homeschool families extra deep discounted rates for this one-day only program. Natural science and planetarium programs are $9.75/child and includes a free visit to the museum. The environmental science labs are $11.75/child and also includes a free visit to the museum. Parents may accompany children into the programs at no additional charge. Museum member parents/free and non-member parents/$12. Registration deadline is February 10th at 4:30p. Call VLM or visit TheVLM.org for information and to register.

Update… CLASSICAL CONVERSATIONS INFORMATIONAL MEETING

Classical Conversations has multiple CC communities in our area. They will be holding informational meetings for those interested in learning more about Classical Conversations. CC seeks to empower parents in the classical teaching of their children through parent practicums and also through establishing and supporting nationally-based, classical, Christian communities, and seeks to enable parents everywhere to equip their children with a biblically-based worldview and the classical “tools of learning” in order to impact the world for God’s glory. OPEN HOUSE AT ALLIANCE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Alliance Christian Academy is having an open house event on Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 6:45pm at Forest Road United Methodist Church. ACA is an academic center offering homeschool students, in Grades 6-12, small classes in a range of subject areas including Apologia sciences. The open house allows parents and students to lear more about ACA’s model, meet their teachers, and obtain a tentative class schedule. Classes meet Mondays and Thursdays with higher-level math classes also meeting on Tuesdays. Visit ACA’s website here for further details.

COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG HOMESCHOOL WEEKEND

Meet Up with History Homeschool Weekend at Colonial Williamsburg Saturday and Sunday, March 15-16, 2014. Visit Colonial Williamsburg this spring to engage in hands-on activities, participate in special programs at the museums, and mingle with residents of the 18th-century. Update… HHBC HOMESCHOOLERS SPECIAL EVENT

The Hyland Heights Baptist Church Homeschoolers wanted to share the following special event with our homeschool community. Humbly I Serve Ministries will present information about their international ministry on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at 10:00a in the new Joshua House facility at HHBC. Those attending will learn about serving others in countries all over the world. Humbly I Serve offers educational, medical, recreational, and outreach programs across the Caribbean. 2014 VAHOMESCHOOLERS CONFERENCE & RESOURCE FAIR

Make connections with Virginia homeschooling families at VaHomeschoolers.org statewide annual conference. An Education Like No Other 2014 VaHomeschoolers Conference and Resource Fair is Friday and Saturday, March 21-22, 2014 in Glen Allen, Virginia. This year’s keynote speakers are Susan Wide Bauer (author of The Well Trained Mind, The Story of the World series, and other resources available through Peace Hill Press) and Julie Bogart (author of Brave Writer and other writing resources available through BraveWriter.com). HOMESCHOOL DAY AT THE MARINERS’ MUSEUM

The Mariners’ Museum in Newport News, Virginia is holding their ‘A Movement of People’ Homeschool Day on Friday, April 4, 2014. There will be a range of classes available for K-12 where participants will learn about storytelling from around the world, Old World/New World contact and the Great Exchange, the Transatlantic Slave Trade, and immigration during the early 20th century. Discounted early registration for students and adults (through March 30th) is $12 for members and $15 for non-members. After March 30th pricing is $15/member, $20/non-member. Prices include homeschool activities, classes, and museum admission. Children 5 & under free and they may participate in activities with their older sublings at no additional fee. The Homeschool Connecting Place is sponsoring a Homeschool Family Night at AMF in Lynchburg (across from River Ridge Mall) on Thursday, April 10, 2014 from 6p-8p. Cost for any age bowler is $5 for two-hours of unlimited bowling and shoe rental. Proof of home education needed to receive this discounted pricing. PACKING PARTY AT STOP HUNGER NOW

The Homeschool Connecting Place is hosting a packing party for Stop Hunger Now on Friday, April 25, 2014 from 10:30a-12p at the Stop Hungry Now  location on Timberlake Road. All ages and abilities are welcome to come and pack. They invite all local homeschool families to join them in their mission to pack 800 meals. CENTRAL VIRGINIA HOMESCHOOL PROM

The Central Virginia Homeschool Prom for 2014 will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014 from 7:30p-11:30p. This year’s theme is Arabian Nights. The prom is open to all homeschool students (9th-12th grade) living in Lynchburg (city) or Amherst, Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell counties.  Tickets are $16/per person and go on sale Monday, March 17, 2014. Under the Son Academy homeschool co-op is holding their annual Used Curriculum & Book Sale on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 from 9a-2p at Living Word Baptist Church.
