Update… CITY ON A HILL YOUTH THEATER PRESENTS ‘OUR TOWN’

The local homeschool theater group, City on a Hill Youth Theater, will present Thornton Wilder’s Our Town at Heritage Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 and on Friday & Saturday, November 1 & 2, 2013  at 7p all three evenings and a 2p Saturday matinee. Update… LYNCHBURG HOMESCHOOL FORENSICS DEBATE CLUB

Lynchburg Homeschool Forensics debate club is starting up again and will include assistance from former Liberty University debaters and center around this year’s theme of marine biology policies. One week per month will focus on speech fun and games, the remaining weeks will be debate activities. There are three tournaments in the spring, maybe some practice tournaments, and some great fun with fabulous people. Team Policy (ages 14-18 as of Jan. 1 2014) meetings are Thursdays 11a-2p. Public Forum (ages 12-14 as of Jan. 1, 2014) meetings will be scheduled if there is sufficient interest, so please let Mrs. Dewhurst know if you are interested. Update… HOMESCHOOL DAY AT AUBURNLEA FARMS

Homeschool Day at Auburnlea Farms will be Wednesday, October 30, 2014 from 10a-5p. Cost is $5 per person, kids under 3 years-old are free. Some of the activities include: corn maze, 1/2 acre straw maze, mind-bending walk-thru puzzles, 5 acre pumpkin patch, hay rides, 40+ foot slide, hand water pump duck races, huge corn box, pedal tractor track, Auburnlea Concession Barn, free play area, farm animals, and farm tours. Update… HOMESCHOOL WINTER MARKET & FOOD BANK BENEFIT

The QE2 Homeschool Group (Quest for Exploration & Experimentation unit-studies based group) will be holding a winter market on Friday, November 22, 2013 from 10a-2p at Lynchburg First Church of the Nazarene. This is a unique opportunity for business-minded kids, parents or entire families to showcase and sell their homemade products to the community at large. Also invited to sell are parents who are independent consultants for established product lines (limited space for this type of vendor). This is a great way to kick-off the holiday season and assist the church’s food bank as well. Table reservation fees are $10 for adult vendors and $5 for vendors aged 18 years and under. All table fee proceeds to to the food bank. 20 tables are available for reservation, vendors with their own table receive a $2 discount. Advertising will be posted around town and on Spirit FM’s community announcements beginning in November. Shoppers get in for free, but are encouraged to bring canned goods or bring a small cash donation to support the food bank. The QE2 group will be selling chili, baked goods, and beverages. Update… LIBERTY UNIVERSITY HOMESCHOOL TENNIS CLINIC

The Liberty University Flames Tennis team will be hosting their annual LU Homeschool Tennis Clinic from December 2-6, 2013 at The Sports Racket in Lynchburg (434-385-7534). This is a FREE week-long event for children 7 years-old through high school. Ages 7-12 meet Mon-Fri 1p-2:10p and Ages 13+ meet Mon-Fri 2:15p-3:30p. Update… LEGO PRESCHOOLERS BRICK TIME

The Homeschool Connecting Place will have Preschoolers Brick Time on Friday, January 24, 2014 from 9a-12p at West Lynchburg Baptist Church. Children ages 3-5 will create exciting models based on the alphabet using DUPLO® bricks, allowing them to build in a scale designed for their little hands. Children will learn about letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. Free play time, songs and finger-play round out a fun morning of learning and playing. Update… HOMESCHOOL ICE SKATING LESSONS

Homeschool ice skating lessons are being offered again this year at the LaHaye Ice Center. Five week sessions cost $65 and include skate rentals. Classes meet Wednesdays from 9:45a-10:45a (come early to sign-in and get skates on). Email Coach Dawn here for further details.

Update… LYNCHBURG PATRIOTS GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Lynchburg Patriots will begin open gyms for girls basketball on Mondays October 7th and October 14th from 5p-7p at the Heritage United Methodist Church gym (HUM). Anyone interested in girls homeschool basketball is welcome to come and play ball in a less formal atmosphere. It will be an opportunity to play and to meet coaches and fellow players also. The open gyms will be for MS, JV and Varsity age girls- these are NOT official practices, so don’t panic if you can’t make it.

Registration begins at the time official practices start and will need to be completed by OCTOBER 31st unless other arrangements are made. More announcements on registration and fees will be made soon. If you are interested in girls basketball announcements, but are not yet on the girls basketball email list, be sure to contact Todd Asselborn, LHSAA Athletic Director, at 434-851-5513.

Official basketball practices will start the week of October 21st with the following schedule: JV/VARSITY (coaches Russ Norman and Bob Lucas) Mondays: 5p-7p at HUM, Thursdays: 3p-5p at Hyland Heights Baptist Church (HHBC), Fridays: 7p-9p at Timberlake Christian School (TCS). MIDDLE SCHOOL (coaches Gerry Harter, Breanna Anderson and Bob Lucas) Tuesdays: 3p-5p at HHBC (this may change to 4 to 6 pm), Fridays: 7p-9p at TCS.

HOMESCHOOL DAYS AT SMITH’S PUMPKIN PATCH

The Smiths, a local homeschool family and proprietors of Smith’s Pumpkin Patch, are offering their annual Homeschool Days on Tuesday, October 8th and Monday October 14th. The cost is $4/child or $20/family and includes an all day pass to the play area and painting a pumpkin. Also, Crazy Joe’s will be there with food and snacks. The patch is open 10am- 8pm and located at 6204 Fort Ave. in Lynchburg. They can also be found at Smith’s Pumpkin Patch on Facebook.
